Back to School Transition Tips:

·   Have your children begin the adjustment by reading a good book. Find something they can enjoy. It will help to get their brain back into the game. Have them turn off the IPad and turn some pages instead!

·   Go on a shopping trip to get some basic school supplies. Make it a fun outing. Do they need some a special calculator this year? How about colorful pens and highlighters?

·   Get them to sleep earlier. Ease off summer hours. They may even need to take a nap those first couple days back. On average a child needs at least 10 hours of sleep each night.

·   Check to see if the school has a tour for children that are starting a new school. This is especially helpful in calming first day nerves.

·   Help your children to set priorities to help them maintain balance and avoid overscheduling. Sometimes that requires saying no to some activities.

·   Have discussions with your children about what they will learn in the year to come. Go over their school books with them and get them excited about all the knowledge they will gain.
