Technology Corridor Happenings

The recurring monthly XcellR8 meeting took place on January 12th within the Nerac business incubation environment. Telechoice CEO and serial entrepreneur Danny Briere provided a peek at the latest feature of his social networking startup, MoxMe! Danny revealed his cloud-based MoxMe! Live Video service that he says totally overhauls the paradigm for streaming video -- which is quite a claim to make.

The product drops the price for entering the streaming video space by an order of magnitude by repurposing high definition surveillance cameras that allow any school to start streaming video for less than $500 (fully installed). Danny said that the product evolved from problems the schools have had in trying to stream live choral and orchestra performances (as well as sports games, graduations, and other events) for grandparents and brother/sister alumni who live in other states -- a problem he said all 123,000 schools in America have in common. It also provides a revenue-generating stream for the schools with appended ad, sponsorship, and fee modules that can be applied per stream, pre group, or per school -- so the system can pay for itself out of the chute and provide income to the drama club, sports teams, etc.

MoxMe! has been in beta with the local school system in Mansfield and has been refining its product for mass distribution across Connecticut and beyond. Danny approached the XcellR8 group looking for guidance on pricing and deployment en masse.

Being a gadget guy, Danny showed how this will powered by iPads, mobile phones, TVs, and even remote control quad-copter toys. It was an impressive presentation and stimulated the imagination.

Last month, XcellR8 hosted the UConn student team developing Sharelogical, LLC.  The team described their business as a cash machine that does good for the world.  The business premise and concepts were outlined in a poster format and presented to the group for review and discussion.
