Taking to the Trails in May

The town has 35 well-maintained hiking trails just waiting to be used.

The Tolland Conservation Commission, Conserving Tolland, Tolland Recreation Department and the Tolland Conservation Corps, would like to remind residents that there are more than 35 hiking trails within the town.

The 35 trails are in great shape and ready for a great hiking adventure. The trails are within 15 areas: open space, recreation, Joshua's Trust, and more.

There are also a number resources for details on these trails, including Conserving Tolland's Walk Book and the Conservation Commission's on-line comprehensive listing of the trails in Tolland.

“Annual Birding Hike”, Schindler-Schmidt Conservation Area, Sugar Hill Road, Sunday, May 6, 7:30 AM.  Slow pace, bring binoculars. No rain date. No pets please. Led by Mr. John Stake.

“Accessible to All”, Crandall Park, ADA Trail, Sunday, May 6, 6:00 PM, slow pace, paved trail, ideal for baby strollers, wheel chairs, persons with mobility issues.  Meet at the parking lot on Old Post Road opposite the entrance to TIS.  No rain date. Led by Randa Utter.

“Moms Out to Walk Day”,  Shafran Conservation Area, Eaton Road, Saturday, May 12, 1:00 PM.  Slow, quiet walk, gentle terrain. No rain date. Led by Cherie Trice.

“North in Tolland”, Palmer-Kendall Mountain conservation Area, Kendall Mountain Road, Wednesday, May 16, 6:00 PM.  No rain date.  Led by Richard Knight.
