BUSINESS GROUP BACKS HURLBURT: CBIA cites bipartisan jobs legislation in endorsing candidacy

The state's largest business organization has endorsed the candidacy of State Representative Bryan Hurlburt.

The state’s largest business organization has endorsed the candidacy of State Representative Bryan Hurlburt. Hurlburt is running for re-election to the state legislature in the 53rd Assembly District which includes the towns of Ashford, Tolland and Willington.

The Connecticut Business & Industry Association (CBIA) cited Hurlburt’s work on both bipartisan jobs legislation and education reform in their endorsement. Hurlburt’s bipartisan approach is further reflected in the fact CBIA supported only 14 Democrats among 67 endorsed candidates for the state House of Representatives.

“Candidates endorsed by CBIA are committed to making Connecticut a better state in which to do business, which means more and better jobs for our residents,” said John R. Rathgeber, CBIA president and CEO. “Connecticut clearly needs lawmakers who can restore business confidence in our state so employers invest, grow and create jobs here.”

Support for key business issues is the principal criterion for CBIA’s endorsements along with a candidate’s overall legislative work, accessibility to constituents, philosophy on how government should operate, and leadership potential.

“Job creation and economic growth continue to be my top priority, particularly when it comes to small business which is the backbone of eastern Connecticut’s economy,” said Hurlburt. “Though I have not sought any endorsements, I do appreciate the support of CBIA and look forward to continue working with them on improving Connecticut’s business climate.”

Hurlburt is a lifelong Tolland resident, and a graduate of Tolland High School and the University of Connecticut. Before his election to the legislature in 2006, he served on the Tolland Town Council.
