Library Supporters Take Their Message to the People

The YES for a Better Library group met the public at Celebrate Tolland Sept. 21, handing out brochures, discussing the architect's rendering of the proposed library expansion and accepting public donations.
The group supports the plan which will add 43% more badly needed space by expanding into the vacant Hicks gym, and encourages the public to vote yes at the Nov. 5 referendum.
The proposal would provide room to expand the library as a digital learning center and community gathering place, increase the seating capacity of the program room, add a children's program room, provide quiet rooms for group study and meetings, add comfortable seating areas and increase space for books and multimedia.
It is expected to cost $2.6 million, but town officials are applying for up to $1 million in grants to offset that total.
Any civic group that would like to have a YES for a Better Library representative attend a meeting to describe the project can call Chairperson Susan Beeching at 860-680-5910.
