Lots to Do in Tolland, Plus Free Comic Book Day

1. According to Weather.com, the forecast for Tolland calls for a high of 65ºF with a 30-percent chance of showers. The overnight low will be 46ºF with a 30-percent chance of early-evening showers.

2. Just like last weekend, Tolland has lots going on this Saturday. First, Birch Mountain Pottery is offering live music and free refreshments from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. during their event, which features handcrafted pottery mugs (plus other crafts) just perfect for Mother’s Day. The shop is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and can be reached at 860-875-0149 or online.

3. Another great place to pick up a gift for mom is on the Tolland Green during today’s . The market, which will run each Saturday through mid-November, offers fresh fruit, vegetables, herbs, flowers and baked goods. The market will be open from 9 a.m. to noon.

4. Considering a night out tonight? For the very reasonable price of only $5, the Tolland Youth Services Community Theater (TYSCT) is holding their Spring at 7 p.m. in the Tolland High School Café. Acts will consist of vocal, guitar and keyboard performances from approximately 20 young and talented performers.

5. Today is Free Comic Book Day in the U.S. Free Comic Book Day is a single day - the first Saturday in May each year - when participating comic book shops across North America and around the world give away comic books absolutely free to anyone who comes into their stores. For those diehard comic book collectors who don’t mind taking a road trip, Franco Aureliani, writer for Tiny Titans and Young Justice, will be signing autographs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cave Comics in Newton, CT (call 203-426-4346 for more information.) And in Putnam, the largest comic and toy store in Eastern Connecticut, Wonderland Comics, will be having a party to celebrate Free Comic Book Day. The event will feature music, entertainment, costume contests and free comics, including over 40 different titles such as Green Lantern, Star Wars, Archie, Spider-Man, The Dark Crystal, Richie Rich and more.
