Patch's Poll: Are You Better Off Than You Were Four Years Ago?

As we head into the meat of the election season, that's the question everyone is asking. How do you feel?

With the national conventions in the rear-view mirror and the election season fully under way, both parties are asking Ronald Reagan's famed 1980 question of voters: Are you better off than you were four years ago?

In 2008, the economy was in a free-fall just prior to the presidential election. While the country has technically emerged from recession, only 96,000 jobs were added in August and the national unemployment rate is still above 8 percent, according to cnn.com.

Connecticut's unemployment rate was 8.5 percent in July, the latest statistics available. That was above the national unemployment rate of 8.3 percent that month.

That's the big picture, but how have things changed for you on a personal level?

Take our poll and elaborate in the comments.

More real jobs going over seas, more company ownerships going overseas, more Chinese investment in U.S.A., more taxpayer bailouts, slipping into socialism without a public debate. New jobs tend to be tax (read government) subsidized...not real jobs. Definitely not better off. Should allow a ressession to run it's course and self correct. This was nothing like the Depression either!!!!

You, see and hear too many people struggling financially! Look around people are just not making ends meet. Many businesses closed up, many vacancies where the stores we use to shop at are no longer. Many people are holding down more then one part-time job. Everything we buy, has gotten so expensive such as food, gas and clothes! I have cut myself back on buying just to keep up with the basics. It's gotten very hard now a days put some money in the bank, to save up for a car or a nice vacation!

definitely worse off- we are paying a much higher percentage of our salary on food, energy and taxes- If Mr. Obama wanted to run a European country- why not move to one- instead of turning us into one!!
