Tolland Library Board Urges Voters to Support the Library Expansion on Nov. 5

On Nov. 5, Tolland voters will have an opportunity to demonstrate their support for their library by approving the Tolland Library expansion referendum. The project would utilize the unused Hicks gymnasium while retaining the present library facilities, including all recently completed renovations.
The plan increases the library’s total space by 43%, providing more stacks for books, added technology stations, designated spaces for both adult and children’s programming, and new areas for quiet study and reading. It addresses a number of long-unmet needs for additional space. It reflects both the community’s current needs and its future ones as libraries move into the digital age.
The expansion is a much-needed improvement for the library. Its $2.6 million cost may be offset by as much as $1.9 million in grants. The project does not require the purchase of additional land or construction of a new building, making it is a modest, cost-effective solution to the issue of space limitations. It is a smart move for town voters.
We urge all Tolland voters to go to the polls on Nov. 5 and support the Tolland Public Library by voting yes for the referendum. For more information, go to www.YESforTolland.com.
Respectfully,
The Tolland Public Library Board
