UCC Tolland Commemorating Veterans with Field of Flags

The United Congregational Church of Tolland will hold a special service of remembrance on Sunday, November 10th at 1:00 PM.  Everyone in our community and surrounding towns is cordially invited to attend this service to honor and remember the Fallen Veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts, our brave men and women serving in the military today and all Veterans who have served our country in the past.

An Honor Guard will lead the beginning of this service.   Other participants will include the local Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, the Tolland High School Madrigal Singers, and several local Veterans.  At the conclusion of the service everyone will be escorted outside by a piper.  We will stand in the midst of the flags for a roll call of the Connecticut fallen heroes, concluded by the playing of Taps.

The church community is honored and proud that we have been able to display the Field of Flags on our front lawn since October 25th.  There are currently 6,674 flags on the lawn.  Each flag represents a soldier that was killed during the Iraq or Afghanistan conflict.  The list of casualties, by state, are displayed on a name board by the Field of Flags showing the name and rank of each American casualty.  A notebook is also located in the church building with the name, rank, town, state and date of death of each soldier.  The flags will be on displayed until November 15th.
