Argument + Phone = Crash for Tolland Man in Vernon

The crash took place on Tuesday.

What apparently began as an argument on a cell phone wound up being a wreck of a day for a Tolland man in Vernon on Tuesday, according to a police report. 

At 3:48 p.m. on Tuesday, Vernon police charged 44-year-old Bruce Abele, of 671 Crystal Lake Rd., with evading responsibility, operating an unregistered vehicle and the use of a hand-held mobile phone while driving, according to a police report. 

The report indicates that he was traveling along Bolton Road in Vernon and he turned right onto Reservoir Road. He struck a guardrail, puncturing a tire in the process, according to a police report. 

He kept going in his 2007 Toyota Tacoma on the wrong side of the road and hit something else 100 feet up the road, according to a police report. 

When an officer arrived at the scene, Abele said he was arguing with someone on the phone, according to a police report. 

He also refused to consent to a breath test and was charged with driving under the influence, police said. 

He posted a $500 bond was was released with a court date of Oct, 7, according to a police report.
