Bus Fire Shuts Down Highway

All three eastbound lanes of Interstate 84 were closed.

At around 8 a.m. on Saturday the Tolland Fire Department responded to the scene of a bus fire on Interstate 84 East between exits 67 and 68 that forced all three lanes of the highway to be shut down for more than one-half of an hour.

A Peter Pan bus on its way to Massachusetts from Hartford caught fire causing significant delays for travelers, according to a fire official.

All 23 people aboard the bus were able to exit safely with all of their belongings, according to Seale Tuttle, spokesman for the Tolland Fire Department. There were no injuries.

Two Tolland ambulances were on the scene to attend to the passengers due to the morning’s cold temperatures.

Tuttle said that the cause of the fire is undermined, but that the bus was “totally destroyed."
