Original story:

A car struck a utility pole on Route 30 at the Tolland/Vernon line early Sunday, closing the road for nearly two hours and sending the driver to the hospital, according to police and fire officials.

According to police, when the vehicle struck the utility pole it broke the pole in two places. The driver, a 20-year-old male, required medical attention for minor injuries and was transported to the hospital by Vernon Ambulance, according to fire and police.

The fallen pole also caused damage to an oncoming car, trapping the driver, police said. The driver did not sustain significant injuries and was not transported to the hospital.

Tolland and the Vernon fire departments responded to the scene at 7:43 a.m., accompanied by a Connecticut Light and Power Emergency Unit.

CL&P repaired the broken pole and by 9:35 a.m. the road was reopened, but restricted to a single lane. It was several hours before the road fully reopened, according to fire and police officials.
