At 12:10 p.m. on Friday, the Tolland Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle accident on Route 74, known locally as Tolland Stage Road, in the area of Gary Road, Public Safety Supervisor John Littell said.
Upon arrival, first-responders found a vehicle that had hit a tractor-trailer head-on, Littell said.
The driver of the motor vehicle had to be extricated and transported to St. Francis Hospital, Littell said. The driver of the tractor-trailer was treated and transported to Rockville General Hospital, he said.
The road was shut down until 3:30 p.m. while State transportation officials investigated the scene to sand and a contractor cleaned up the road, Littell said.
The road was then sanded, Littell said.
Neither the drivers' identities, nor their injuries have been released yet.
A roadblock was set up at the intersection of Tolland Stage and Skungamaug roads.
