Updated: House Catches Fire on White Birch Drive

The call involved multiple alarms.

The Tolland Fire Department has responded to a fully involved house fire at 11 White Birch Lane, officials have confirmed. 

The initial calls came in just before 1 p.m. and the call almost immediately turned to a second alarm.

Other agencies went to the scene, including a Vernon ambulance, a Vernon official said.

Fire officials said the house is a total loss. 

The only injury sustained was a minor one to a mutual aid firefighter, Tolland officials said. 

The state fire marshal, the local fire marshal and state police  were at the scene late Tuesday afternoon into the evening and local officials said a news release would be issued when a preliminary report is compiled.

Assistant Public Safety Director Douglas Racicot said that three fire's origin was the bedroom and attic area of the split level ranch.

Departments that assisted with either fire suppression or station coverage were: - Tolland, Bolton, Vernon, Crystal Lake, Ellington, Mansfield, Columbia, Willington Hill, Uconn-Storrs, North and South Coventry, Somers, RGH Paramedic and an AMR backup ambulance.

It appears no one was at home when the fire broke out and a passerby reported it to the Fire Department, he said. 

The fire is still under investigation.
