LifeStar transported a man to Hartford Hospital a little after 9 p.m. Thursday after a motorcycle driver struck a deer on the exit 69 onramp for I-84 East, said Public Safety Director and Fire Chief John Littell.

The driver was crawling away from the bike, which was on fire, when first responders arrived, according to Littell. He said that the fire was put out, and LifeStar was called when a witness told emergency personnel that the driver had lost consciousness earlier.

LifeStar landed at the soccer field, according to Littell.

I was second on the scene and unless the 1st lady in the van who witnessed the actual accident said he was "crawling" that's not what happened. He appeared to have been thrown off the bike & when I got there he was trying to get up to get to his bike. He had no idea what had happened so we speculated he lost consciousness. The 3rd lady who stopped to help and I would not let him get up. None of the 3 of us are paramedics but we did help by making him stay still and scaring him enough about the possibility of his bike exploding so he would stop trying to get up to 'turn the bike off!' He didn't know what had happened but then we discovered the dead dear about 4' away in the grass. Poor guy may have been injured less if he'd been wearing a helmet and proper biking gear. He had a serious eye injury and it looked like his leg was broken.
