LifeStar Called to Tolland Accident on Thursday

Five Tolland residents were involved in the crash on Route 31.

A Tolland resident was transported to Hartford Hospital via LifeStar after a serious car crash on Route 31 shut down a portion of the road for more than two hours on Thursday.

According to , Tolland resident Katherine Gleason was traveling eastbound on Route 31 when her car entered the opposite lane, sideswiping two other vehicles. 

A third car avoided the collision, but ended up striking a mailbox.

Public Information Officer Seale Tuttle said that TFD first responders used the Jaws of Life to extricate several of the injured people.

According to Troop C, Gleason was taken to Hartford Hospital by LifeStar. Tolland resident Kyle Randino, who was in the first car struck traveling in the westbound lane, was transported to Rockville Hospital, while fellow resident Renee Weiss and her two passengers were taken to St. Francis Hospital as a precautionary measure, according to Troop C.

All of the cars were towed, with the exception of the vehicle that hit the mailbox, according to Troop C.

Tuttle said that the accident took place a little before 7 p.m., and that Route 31 was reopened around 9 p.m.

First responders from Vernon Ambulance and Ellington Ambulance assisted the Tolland Fire Department at the scene, Tuttle said. Troop C and Vernon police are investigating reports that one of the vehicles was involved in another accident near Route 31 and Exit 67 seconds prior to the Tolland collision, Tuttle added.

Police report that Gleason was issued an infraction for failure to drive right.
