Man Falls into Somers Well, Recovery Operation Underway

Emergency personnel from several towns and state agencies are on the scene of a well accident on Hampden Road in Somers.

Update, 4:30 p.m.

West Stafford Assistant Fire Chief Bill Morrison said that the incident is being called a well accident where a man fell at least 15 feet.

He said the identity of the victim is not known and that the effort is being called a recovery at this point. He said the body has been raised near the surface and is expected to be removed shortly.

State and local police and local fire personnel, including members of the Tolland County Dive Team, are at the scene of an accident where a person reportedly fell in a 65-foot well.

The emergency crews were called to 215 Hampden Rd. located just shy of the Massachusetts state line shortly after 1:30 p.m., according to various police and fire reports.

At this time an unidentified well company and members of the State Department of Transportation are assisting in the operation.
