Police Blotter: June 25 - 30

The following arrest reports, provided by Connecticut State Police Troop C in Tolland, are accurate as of July 1, 2011. Items on this list reflect charges filed, not convictions.

June 26

Theresa M. Bell, 29, of 38 Village St., Vernon was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs, possession of narcotics out of a container, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of controlled substances/narcotics, possession of controlled substance/less than four ounces of marijuana. Police arrested Bell after locating a running vehicle on Brown Bridge Road with a woman passed out behind the steering wheel. A subsequent investigation revealed that the accused was driving while intoxicated and a search of the vehicle revealed marijuana and prescription narcotics.

Joseph A. Newton, 22, of 11 Westland Rd., Ellington was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court. Newton turned himself in after being informed that he had an active warrant out for his arrest. Bail was set at $1000.

Jeffrey J. Ward, 22, of 719 Crystal Lake Rd., Tolland was charged with violation of probation. He was taken into custody at his residence on an active warrant issued on May 31. Bail was set at $10,000.

Police issued an infraction for a one vehicle accident near Exit 68 on Interstate 84 east after a New York woman swerved across three lanes of traffic. According to the police report, the woman was in the far left lane when she was distracted by a child in the car. The vehicle drifted onto the rumble strip, shocking the woman and causing her to turn right sharply and travel across the highway. The driver and three passengers were uninjured and the car sustained minor damage. The driver was issued an infraction for improper right turning and failure to carry an insurance identification card.

June 29

Two Tolland residents were involved in a crash on Route 195. The first driver was hit when turning left, and the vehicle in the other lane failed to stop or slow down. One of the drivers was transferred to St. Francis Hospital for minor injuries.

June 30

Kaalyn Marie Baxter, 25, of 9 Strawberry Rd., Ellington was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court. Baxter was arrested after a traffic stop and transported to Troop C without incident. Bail was set at $3500.

A Tolland resident was involved in a three-car crash on Route 31 in Tolland. Timothy C. Clancy of Old Post Road in Tolland was driving on Route 31, followed by two cars. When Clancy slowed for a car turning onto Reed Road, the vehicle directly behind him slowed, but the third vehicle, driven by a Coventry resident, failed to stop, causing a collision. No injuries were reported and the first two cars sustained only minor damage. The third car received heavy damage to the front end and was towed by Tolland Citgo. The Coventry driver was issued an infraction for following too closely.
