State Police Successfully Stuff Cruisers With Gifts

Donations for needy children can still me made.

State Troopers collected more than 2,500 holiday gift items at the annual Stuff a Cruiser event on the Tolland Green n Saturday.

State police had challenged the community to help them stuff the police cars with new unwrapped toys.

Gift cards and monetary donations were also accepted.

The total collected was:

• 1,322 gifts
• $630 in cash and checks
• $730 in gift cards

All toys and gifts collected are to be distributed to less-fortunate children in the towns served by Troop C, as part of Operation Team Spirit, the annual statewide State Police toy drive.

Troop C serves the towns of Ashford, Ellington, Mansfield, Somers, Stafford, Tolland, Union, Vernon and Willington.

The troopers were assisted by the Tolland Public Safety Explorer Post.

Tolland Resident Trooper Danny McCarthy supervises the Tolland Explorer Post and organizes this event every year and he said he wanted to personally thank those who braved the cold and made a donation.

There are still chances to donate. From now until Dec. 14, gifts and monetary donations will also be accepted at the Troop C barracks on Route 74 in Tolland and at the Human Services office in the Hicks Municipal Center.
