Suspect in Custody for May Bank Robbery in Vernon

The June robbery at the same branch is still under investigation.

A New Jersey man is in custody for his alleged involvement in a May bank robbery at the People's United branch at the Tri-City shopping plaza. 

In a Thursday news release, Vernon police said they have arrested Arthur Allyn, 32, of 402 Deal Rd., Oakhurst, NJ in connection with the May 25 robbery at the bank, located at 35 Talcottville Rd.

Allyn was extradited from New Jersey on Wednesday, where he was being held as a fugitive in relation to the robbery, and was booked Wednesday afternoon on second-degree robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery; as well as third-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit larceny charges, police said. He was held overnight on a $250,000 bond was was to be presented on court on Thursday, police said. 

Allyn allegedly robbed the bank by giving the teller a note, police said. No one was injured during this robbery and Allyn obtained an undisclosed amount of cash, police said. 

Detectives tracked down the vehicle used in the robbery and connected it to Allyn, according to a news release. 

The case remains under investigation and an additional arrest is expected, police said.

Vernon Detectives are continuing to investigate the June 21 robbery of the same People’s Bank branch. It is not believed that the two robberies are connected, according to a news release.
