A Tolland man was one of two charged.

A Tolland man was one of two people slapped with drug charges after officers from the East Central Narcotics Task Force intercepted a car at a busy Vernon interchange on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Task Force members had received a tip that a white Chevrolet Cavalier with heroin inside it would be exiting Interstate-84 at exit 67, and officers set up a surveillance operation near the exit, according to a news release.

The car was stopped at about 2:30 p.m. on Route 31 after it exited the highway and both marijuana and heroin were located inside the vehicle, police said.
Police said the passenger was Bryan Rioux, 27, of 109 Old Kent Rd., Tolland. He was charged with heroin possession and his bond was set at $2,500, police said.

The driver was identified by police as 33-year-old Jessica Reed of 164 East St., Stafford. She was charged with possession of both heroin and pot and possession of heroin with intent to sell, police said. Her bond was set at $5,000, police said.

The task force consists of officers from Vernon, Manchester, South Windsor and Glastonbury.
