Residents may be , according to the CL&P power restoration estimates, but the town of Tolland has made some decisions to help residents clean up after the damaging storm.

Spoiled food can be dropped off at the Highway Garage, located at 118 Old Post Road. The tree debris drop off is located at the .

The Tolland EOC is also announcing that open burning permits are suspended until Monday, November 14. Residents can consult both the DEP Open Burning guidelines, as well as the Tolland Fire Department's Web site for standard practices on how to safely have an open burning fire.

The TFD open burning guidelines require that residents wet down the burning area, have a source of water available for extinguishing the burn and attend the fire at all times.

The fire marshal also specifies that a pile three feet or less in diameter and two feet or less in height should be 25 feet away from any structure. Any larger piles must be 50 feet away. Gasoline and kerosene should not be used to start the fire.

Children and pets should be kept away from the fire, and there should be no open burning on windy days. It's also prohibited to burn trash, animal bedding, hay, plastic, cans, shingles and wood mulch.

The fire marshal also asks residents to consider alternatives such as chipping or composting.
