Tolland Police Blotter: April 22 - April 28

The following arrest reports, provided by Connecticut State Police Troop C in Tolland, are accurate as of April 28, 2011. Items on this list reflect charges filed, not convictions.

April 22

A Weston, MA, man was arrested and charged with possession of narcotics while he was at the Troop C State Police barracks on other business. Jared Vinik, 18, was at the barracks on Route 74 when two troopers became suspicious. They searched his vehicle and discovered narcotics. Vinik was charged with possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Tolland County Superior Court in Rockville on June 21.

A 15-year-old juvenile and Kaleigh M. Nichols, 25, of 80 Fox Ridge Road, were arrested after the two engaged in a physical altercation at the house that resulted in both sustaining minor injuries. The unidentified juvenile was charge with third-degree assault and disorderly conduct and is scheduled to appear in juvenile court in Rockville on June 3. Nichols was charged with disorderly conduct and was scheduled to appear in Tolland County Superior Court in Rockville on April 25.

Mateusz Stopa, 20, of Willington, was charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs after attempting to pick up his girlfriend, who was being held at the barracks. Troopers suspected that Stopa was under the influence of something, and after conducting a series of field sobriety tests, which Stopa failed, police arrested the man. He was released on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in Tolland County Superior Court in Rockville on May 9.

State Police investigating a complaint that someone damaged several sections of vinyl fence along Timber Trail.

April 25

State Police are investigating a complaint that someone or some people tried to break into the First Baptist Church on Cider Mill Road. Someone from the church reported that overnight the side door was forced open, as was the door to the office. Nothing was taken.

A car driven by a Bloomfield man struck the rear of another vehicle driven by a Tolland woman at 4 p.m. near the intersection of Routes 195 and 74. Felicia M. Sebben, 49, of 16 Hurlburt Road, had stopped the 2001 GMC at the intersection to take a turn when a 2005 Acura TL driven by Omar Ricketts, 27, struck the vehicle. Ricketts was cited for following too closely.

April 26

Jasper R. Toth, 22, of 79 Tolland Stage Road, was charged with possession of marijuana when someone complained that too much noise was coming from a residence on Tolland Avenue in Stafford at 9:25 p.m. Toth was released on a $500 bond and is schedule to appear in Tolland County Superior Court in Rockville on May 16.

April 27

Troopers are investigating a complaint about an alleged burglary and force entry to a house on Mile Hill Road. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 860-896-3200.

April 28

Traffic along Interstate 84 east was significantly slowed after an early morning tractor trailer truck crash. A truck driven by Josef Veneck, 67, of La Verne, CA, jack knifed in the right shoulder near exit 68. No one was injured and state police are investigating.
