Tolland Police Blotter: April 29 - May 5

The following arrest reports, provided by Connecticut State Police Troop C in Tolland, are accurate as of noon on May 6, 2011. Items on this list reflect charges filed, not convictions.

April 30

Stephen W. Rice, 22, of Auburn, MA, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and risk of injury to a minor after being found on an off ramp to Interstate 84.

After reportedly driving erratically on the interstate at 11:49 p.m., Rice stopped on the off ramp at exit 68. He was found slumped over the steering wheel holding what police suspected to be narcotics with a 4-year-old child asleep in the back seat.

In addition to the driving and risk of injury charges, Rice was charged with possession of narcotics and improper parking.

Rice is scheduled to appear in Tolland County Superior Court in Rockville on May 11.

May 1

A Tolland man was issued a citation for following too closely after a minor, two-car accident on Old Post Road.

As Amanda Morrison, 20, of 67 Fernwood Rd., was waiting in her 1996 Nissan Sentra, which she was driving, to take a right onto Route 195, a 1998 Acura Integra driven by Digilio Rigazio, 59, of 108 Lawlor Rd. struck the back of Morrison’s car.

No one was injured. Rigazio was cited for following too close.

May 3

A chain reaction collision occurred on Route 195 at 1:57 p.m. when a car failed to stop in time striking two others as they waited at a red light near Goose Lane.

Morine Rodriguez, 60, of Hartford, driving a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, and Benjamin Burnham, 27, of Windsor, driving a 2001 Ford, were stopped at the light when a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta driving by Renee Richard, 58, of West Hartford struck the back of Burnham’s Ford. The Ford then struck the back of the Pontiac.

Richard was cited for following too close.

May 4

A minor two-car accident on an off ramp on Interstate 84 I Vernon resulted in a Tolland man receiving a citation for following too close.

James Loura, 31, of 216 Crystal Lake, Tolland, was slowly bringing his 2006 Range Rover to a stop on the off ramp when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Ngoc Heuer, 40, of 28 Old Orchard Way.

Heuer was cited for following too close.

May 5

An accident at the intersection of Old Post Road and Mountain Spring Road resulted in minor damage to the vehicles but no injuries.

Danielle Bertash, 23, of 22 Hughes Rd., was traveling on Old Post Road while Caroline E. Kaminski, 23, of Harwinton, was stopped at a stop sign on Mountain Spring Road before turning onto Old Post Road, striking the car driven by Bertash.

Kaminski was cited for failing to obey a stop sign.
