Tolland Police Blotter: May 13 - May 19

The following arrest reports, provided by Connecticut State Police Troop C in Tolland, are accurate as of noon on May 20, 2011. Items on this list reflect charges filed, not convictions.

May 13

Just after noon police responded to 763 Tolland Stage Rd., Unit 20, for a report of a commotion. One there they charged Mary St. Amant-Johnson with creating a public disturbance.

A Willington man was killed when a motorcycle he was riding was struck by a mini-van at 1:39 p.m. as the driver attempted to take a left onto Phelps Way from Route 32. Michael Sabolsky, 63, of 101 Tolland Turnpike, Willington was riding a 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle south on Route 32 near Phelps Way when he was struck by a 2005 Chevrolet mini-van driven by Albert Ouellette, 84, of 736 West Shenipsit Lake Rd., Tolland. According to police, Ouellette was traveling north on Route 32, attempted to take a left onto Phelps Ways and crossed in front of the motorcycle. Sabolsky was taken to Rockville Memorial Hospital where he died. The accident remains under investigation and charges are pending. A two-car accident on Browns Bridge Road resulted in one vehicle being towed from the scene but no injuries to the drivers. A 2003 Jeep Liberty driven by Rosa Racco, 38, of 14 Heather Lane, Somers, as stopped at a stop sign on Browns Bridge Road when a car driven by Ricky Dumont, 36, of 144 Browns Bridge Rd., Tolland, struck the back of Racco’s vehicle. Dumont was cited for following too closely.

Beth Kukish, 48, of 93 St. Johns Rd., Manchester, was charged with first-degree failure to appear and second-degree failure to appear for missing court appearances in New Britain and Rockville, respectively.

May 15

Todd Thomas Jamieson, 34, of 32 Loehr Rd., Tolland, was charged with risk of injury to a minor, disorderly conduct and third-degree assault after police were called to his residence for a report of a verbal argument. Jamieson left on foot before police got to the house and was found by a member of the K9 unit and taken into custody without incident.

Wendy Alvarado, 36, of Clinton, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and improper parking after being found near exit 68 of Interstate 84. Alvarado is scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on May 31.

May 17

A two-car accident on Route 30 near Old Post Road was the reason for two vehicles being towed to a nearby garage, but did not result in any injuries for the drivers or passengers. Nicole Strugis, 29, of 120 Colorado Dr., Somers, was traveling east on Route 30 in her 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee when she was hit by a 1999 Jeep Cherokee driven by Sarah Rust, 19, of 87 Cook Hill Rd., Tolland, as she tried to take a left from Old Post Road onto Route 30 in front of Strugis. Rust was cited for failing to grant the right of way.

A one-car accident on Interstate 84 east could have been so much worse if the car that spun out in the center lane of three had hit other travelers. Kyle Krieger, 17, of 285 Charles St., Tolland, was traveling in the right lane of three when he attempted to switch into the center lane and avoid contact with another vehicle traveling in the left lane of three. Krieger lost control of the 1999 Toyota Camry he was driving on the wet road and spun out, crossing into the left lane and hitting the concrete barrier but no other vehicles. Krieger was not injured, but the Camry sustained significant damaged and was towed. Krieger was cited for failure to maintain the proper lane and traveling too fast for conditions.

Two people were sent to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries Monday morning, the result of a multi-vehicle accident - four cars and one tractor-trailer truck - on Interstate 84 West that tied up commuter traffic for hours. For more information on this accident read .

While slowing down for the other multi-car accident, a second, smaller accident took place between another tractor-trailer truck and a 1997 Chevrolet Lumina. Mark E. Kleven, 43, of Monticello, IL, was driving a tractor-trailer near exit 67 when he slowly tried to change into the right lane close to where the Lumina, driven by James Hoey, 55, of Griswold, was parked in the right shoulder. Kleven then jackknifed the tractor-trailer.
