Tolland Receives DUI Enforcement Grant from State

Tolland has received a DUI enforcement grant totaling a little more than $33,000 from the state Department of Transportation, according to Resident Trooper Sgt. Scott Smith.

Smith said that this is the second year that the town has applied for and been given a DUI grant from the state. The state is providing 75 percent of the funds, with the town contributing around $8,000, he said.

The grant will pay for staff to step up DUI enforcement, especially as the summer season approaches.

"It's geared for all of the holidays," Smith said of the DUI plan, which will include more extensive enforcement starting Memorial Day weekend on May 24 through September 12. He added that there will be additional forces available during most of the summer weekend evenings, and at least one spot check tentatively scheduled in August.

Smith also reminds residents that the Click It or Ticket campaign has begun and will continue until June 3.
