Candidate Forum Scheduled for the 35th Senate, 8th House Races

The event, hosted by the Tolland County Agriculture Center, will focus on open space issues.

A Meet the Candidates Night focusing on open space issues will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 3, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the Tolland County Agriculture Center in Vernon.

The event will feature Democratic challenger Susan Eastwood and Republican Incumbent Tony Guglielmo from the 35th Senatorial District, and Republican Incumbent Timothy Ackert and Democratic challenger John Murphy from the 8th State Assembly District.

The public is welcome to attend.

The candidates will respond to four questions given to them in advance that focus on open space preservation and related issues, including supporting small family owned farms and local businesses, organizers said. Candidates will then respond to questions from the audience and close the evening with statements as to why they are the best choice for their respective offices.

The event is being organized by Save Open Space-Coventry, a committee dedicated to preserving Coventry’s open space and rural character.

“This event gives all four candidates the opportunity to share their visions of how the rural character and charm of our local towns can be sustained and nurtured. This is a subject that affects quality of life for all residents. We open the event to everyone,” Cathy Cementina, of SOS-Coventry, said.

The Tolland County Agriculture Center is located at 24 Hyde Ave. - Route 30 - in Vernon.
