Council Renews Contract With Resident State Troopers

The contract is good through June 30, 2013 and requires the town to pay 100 percent of the troopers' overtime budget.

State and municipal laws in Tolland could continue to be enforced by the resident state trooper program for at least two more years.

Earlier this week, the Town Council approved a two-year contract between the town and the state Department of Public Safety’s police services division to provide the service through June 30, 2013. (If either side wants to opt out of the contract they have to give 30 days written notice.)

The two-year contract, which starts July 1, will cost $550,222 in the first year (2011-12) and requires the town to pay 100 percent of overtime charges, according to a report from Town Manager Steven Werbner. Previously, the town only needed to pay 70 percent of that cost. The $550,222 covers part of the troopers’ salaries, training, equipment and vehicles, among other items.
