Linda McMahon Has Spent $78 Million so Far on Senate Races

Most of the money she has spent on her 2012 and 2010 Senate campaigns is from her personal fortune. Her opponent, Chris Murphy has spent about $8.7 million.

U.S. Senate hopeful Linda McMahon has spent nearly $28 million of her own money on her political aspirations during the current campaign, and about $78 million on her campaigns for this election and the election of 2010.

Campaign finance records show that McMahon has loaned or contributed to her current campaign nearly $28 million for the 2012 campaign. That amount includes $14.7 million in a two-month period that ended last month, according to The Day of New London. The paper gleaned the campaign finance spending data from mandated reports McMahon and other candidates filed in September with the Federal Election Commission.

The former chief executive of World Wrestling Entertainment lost her bid for the Senate to Democrat Richard Blumenthal in 2010 after spending nearly $50 million of her own money. She and her opponent, Chris Murphy, are locked in a bitter contest for the Senate seat being vacated by Joseph Lieberman this year.

While McMahon has largely financed her campaign with her personal fortune, Murphy’s battle to win the Senate seat has been paid for mostly with $8.7 million in campaign donations, The Day reports.  Recent polls show the two locked in a statistical dead heat.

While McMahon’s spokesman says the candidate’s use of her own money underscores that her vote can’t be bought by lobbyists or outside interests, Murphy’s campaign aides have said McMahon is using money she made at the WWE “selling sex and violence to children to fund her desperate campaign of lies, smears, and attack ads,’’ the Boston Globe reports.

What could have happened if $78M was reinvested into a charitable cause or an education program? I wonder...

Oddly enough, Linda McMahon is doing more to revive the economy with her advertizing and campaigning (mostly out of her own pocket) than the governor is with all those misspent tax dollars...

It appears she has plenty of money to waste. She's not going to be able to buy her way in.

Who cares if she spends her own money? Miss Mary, how many nick knacks or have you bought for your house? Or how much jewelry have you bought for yourself? Who really cares. She would be much better than Krissy Murphy. We need new blood in DC, not the same idiots that have been going there for years and got us into this mess we're in. What jobs has Krissy brought into the State? Winchester, Marlin, a big part of Pratt, Hamilton, The Hartford, Atena, Carrier, Stanadyne, have had plant closings, major layoffs, or completely left the state. How many thousands of jobs have been lost? Where are the new jobs? Krissy is a career DC person who has to go. The state unemployment rate is well above the US average and you still want loser Krissy to stay in DC? Please wake up and realize we need new people in DC. Not retreads.

It's society's fault that they trashed the school. That's intelligent!

Stay positive, learn and grow always. And always, always be open to, and pray for, new perspectives.Read More You are obviously engaged, bright and motivated. Always stay that way, but realize you will see many, many things in your life that aren't fair. I have travelled a lot, and been off the beaten track in Peru and many other poor countries. And I myself grew up on welfare. There are so many wonderful things that we have in Tolland and in America. So many, many opportunities and blessings. Never feel persecuted or you will be the one who loses. This has developed into a discussion about life. In a nutshell, what occurred at the school was not right.
