Meet Joe Sce: Tolland School Board Nominee

The Republican Town Committee has nominated Sce to fill the vacancy left by Althea Gill on the board of education.

The Tolland Republican Town Committee has nominated Joe Sce to serve on the board of education, filling the spot left after former member Althea Gill resigned in September.

"It's a new adventure for me," Sce said. Sce has not served as an elected official before, but he said that he hopes to use his financial expertise as a tax director at the Windsor branch of Alstom to assist the school board.

"There's a bit of a need for people with a financial background to serve on the board," Sce commented.

Sce has three children in the Tolland school system and has been a resident for 11 years.

"This seems like a good opportunity to get involved in local politics and to have an impact on my kids' schools," Sce said.

After attending the budget conversation on Wednesday night, Sce said he hopes that the school board will continue to collaborate with the town council to tackle financial issues as the budget season approaches.

"I think they've made some good progress in the past year," he said. "I think there's an advantage to the two groups sitting down before the formal budgets are presented and discussing what the town can afford and what the board of education needs."

The town council will need to approve Sce's nomination before he becomes a member of the school board.
