Meet the 53rd District Candidate: Sam Belsito

The special election is June 11.

Here is a biography submitted by Sam Belsito, the Republican candidate for the 53rd District seat in the state House of Representatives. A special election was called for June 11 after Bryan Hurlburt resigned to take a federal agriculture position. 


Sam was born in Worcester, MA, July 16, 1942.

Sam is the son of Italian-American parents.

Sam and his wife Paulette have been married 45 years. They have been Tolland residents since 1969.

Sam & Paulette have three children, Dr. Karin M. Belsito-Donahue, M.D., D.M.D., married to Patrick Donahue of Bethesda, MD; Joel E. Belsito married to Leslie Campbell Belsito, Coventry, CT; Sam Belsito III married to Amber LeBlanc, Coventry, CT. All are graduates of the Tolland Public School System.
Sam & Paulette have seven grandchildren ages 2-8.

Sam is a graduate New England School of Accounting, Worcester, MA; Leicester Jr. College, Leicester, MA; Nichols College, Dudley, MA (BBA); Western New England College, Springfield, MA (MBA); University of CT., Storrs, CT. (BGS).
Sam is also a graduate of Massachusetts Military Academy where he was commissioned 2nd LT.; He achieved rank of 1st LT. in the MA and CT Army National Guard.

Sam began working part-time in a family men’s retail business at age 13.He worked as Assistant buyer, Filene & Co., Worcester, MA.
Sam & his wife relocated to Connecticut in 1967.

Sam worked as an Assistant buyer, G. Fox & Co., Hartford, CT.; Cost Accountant, United Aircraft-Pratt & Whitney, Hartford, CT.; Financial Analyst at Veeder Root Industries Corporate Headquarters, Hartford, CT.; Associate Comptroller, 2 divisions, at Smith & Wesson Inc., Springfield, MA.
Sam holds a current CT Real Estate license & Financial Certificates from The American College.

Sam opened his successful men’s clothing & tuxedo business, Samuel LTD., in Vernon, CT in 1973.

Sam is currently President of Samuel LTD. Tux King with son Joel Belsito. 

Sam was elected to Tolland Town Council in 2011. He has served on TollanHe has served on Tolland Town Conversation Groups, Housing for the Elderly and various Tolland Town committees.
