Meet the 53rd District Candidate: Tony Horn

The special election is June 11.

Here is a biography submitted by Tony Horn, the Democratic candidate for the 53rd District seat in the state House of Representatives. A special election was called for June 11 after Bryan Hurlburt resigned to take a federal agriculture position.

Tony Horn is a candidate for State Representative in the 53rd Assembly District, which includes the towns of Tolland Ashford and Willington. There is a special election for this office on June 11, due to the resignation of former State Rep. Bryan Hurlburt who has endorsed Horn’s candidacy. 

Tony has a long and successful record of public service in his community as both a local elected official and volunteering for charitable organizations.

As a member of Ashford’s Board of Finance since 2003, Tony has been a leader in working in a bipartisan manner to develop and pass a balanced budget each year to help protect quality services and ensure a stable property tax rate. He was instrumental in forming the town’s Capital Expenditure Committee, and is also a Justice of the Peace. 

Tony has been a member of the Ashford Democratic Town Committee for the past 20 years. His state legislative priorities include assistance for local businesses, increased municipal state aid to help lower property taxes, and access to more affordable quality healthcare for seniors and families.     
Tony is also an accomplished musician, receiving a Bachelor of Music degree form the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford. He plays the guitar and performs throughout the area. 

Tony and his wife Barbara are 30-year residents of Ashford. Barbara is a first-grade teacher in Ashford. Their children Michael and Elizabeth both attended Ashford schools and graduated from E.O. Smith High School.
