Nearly One Hundred Tolland Republican Campaign Signs Missing

A number of Democratic campaign signs have been taken, as well.

Both Tolland Republican and Democrat town committees have reported that a number of election signs have gone missing.

Fundraising chair and Republican town council candidate Mark Gill said that the Republican party has lost close to a hundred signs from streets such as Sugar Hill Road, Old Stafford Road, Goose Lane and Amanda Way, amongst others.

"It's unfortunate, but it seems like we've suffered at the hands of some vandals," Gill said. He added that the Republican party does not know who is behind the missing signs and may yet make a formal report to the police, once they have a better idea of how many signs were taken and from where.

A call to the Tolland Resident Trooper's Office confirmed that police have received reports of missing signs from residents.

"We're in the process of getting them replaced now," Gill said. According to Gill, signs featuring the candidates' pictures as well as signs simply displaying candidate names were taken.

Democratic Town Committee Chairperson SaraBeth Nivison said that the Democratic party has lost around ten signs, which she explained is normal during an election year.

"Unfortunately, it is something we deal with every two years," Nivison said in an email to Tolland Patch. "Between bad weather and Halloween pranks, we always lose some signs. The most unfortunate thing is that both the Republicans and the Democrats spend a fair amount of money on these signs, a long standing, traditional way of getting candidates' names out in public."

Gill said that the Republican town committee will replace the lost signs and focus on promoting their candidates up for election.

"We're very excited for the campaign," Gill said. "Hopefully this doesn't happen again."

Where would be the best location to learn more about all the candidates? Will the Patch being doing local profiles before the election so those who plan to vote know a little about every position being sought for election?

Yes, Tolland Patch is currently putting together profiles of all the candidates. They should run starting next week.
