A new bank building, which will feature a drive-through, will be constructed on Route 195 across from Fieldstone Commons.

The Planning & Zoning Commission approved an application Monday night to construct a new building for the

The commission had to approve waivers to several regulations in order to move forward:

  • To allow a drive-through for the bank
  • To allow a reduced side setback for parking of 10 feet
  • To waive the lot connectivity requirment
  • To allow for 15 impervious parking spaces; the maximum is 10

The site plan has been reviewed and approved by the Inland Wetlands Commission, according to Town Planner Linda Farmer.

A traffic study submitted by Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc. concluded that the bank won't have an adverse effect on the efficiency of the intersection.

However, Tolland Water Commission Vice-Chairperson Richard Symonds noted during the public hearing that the utility had not been informed of the construction application, although it serves customers in the area.

Savings Institute Bank and Trust is currently located in Meeting House Commons on Merrow Road.
