Progress on Town Hall Geothermal Project Continues

Town Manager Steven Werbner says that the parking lot may be usable by the end of next week.

Tolland Energy Task Force chairperson Mark Summers says that good progress is being made on the and library construction project, both of which have been disrupting the shared parking lot between the buildings.

Summers said that the 40 geothermal wells have been drilled, pressure tested and piped into the building. While the parking lot is smooth once again, it had not been repaved as of Thursday morning.

Town Manager Steven Werbner said that the parking lot may be usable by the end of next week, as long as there is no inclement weather.

Summers added that workers have poured some of the new sidewalks and that new piping to carry the heated water throughout the has been partially installed.

The library roof replacement is also moving along, according to Summers. The old skylight has been removed and replaced with several smaller skylights, which Summers said will improve seasonal heat retention and cooling while providing a great source of natural light.

Many of the library's ceiling tiles have also been removed, Summers said.

Finally, a pit for the new town hall elevator has been dug, but the elevator has not been installed yet, according to Summers.

He added that there is still plenty of work to be done to complete the projects.
