Tolland Prepares for Powerful Winter Storm

Schools are closed, and public safety officials have compiled lists of residents willing to pitch in after the storm hits.

Public Safety Director and Emergency Management Director John Littell said the Public Safety Department is collecting volunteer contact information in case the town needs help responding to a potentially powerful winter storm on Friday.

In a news release from the Public Safety Department, Littell asks residents willing to answer phones at the Emergency Operations Center and those with access to snowmobiles and 4-wheel drive, to send their contact info and availability to Betsy Tanner at btanner@tolland.org.

Littell also reminds residents who are on oxygen or with special dietary needs to gather extra supplies before the storm arrives Friday afternoon. Those who are also on the public safety department's "Special Needs List," but are weathering out the storm somewhere other than their home, should also notify Public Safety at 860-871-3677.

Littell asks residents to keep their house numbers cleared and visible to help emergency responders.

If the town needs to open shelters, residents should be prepared to bring sheets, blankets, pillows and toiletries, Littell said. Pets will need crates/carriers, leashes, food etc. and will be placed in a separate shelter.

Sign up for the Tolland Alert system for emergency notifications, or follow Tolland Works and Tolland Patch on Facebook for updates during the storm.

Snowstorm safety information is available on the town's website.

Another regional high school had a tailgate breakfast this morning and it went with out anyRead More problems. (without approval from admins.) Kids are not the problem here. Seems like administrators are the ones looking for problems.

It's society's fault that they trashed the school. That's intelligent!

Stay positive, learn and grow always. And always, always be open to, and pray for, new perspectives.Read More You are obviously engaged, bright and motivated. Always stay that way, but realize you will see many, many things in your life that aren't fair. I have travelled a lot, and been off the beaten track in Peru and many other poor countries. And I myself grew up on welfare. There are so many wonderful things that we have in Tolland and in America. So many, many opportunities and blessings. Never feel persecuted or you will be the one who loses. This has developed into a discussion about life. In a nutshell, what occurred at the school was not right.
