Town Council Sets Mill Rate

The council also honored Assessor Walter Lawrence, who retired after 38 years of working in Tolland.

The town council officially approved the 2012-2013 budget at Tuesday night's meeting, setting the new mill rate of 29.99 mills.

Voters approved the . The budget includes a .87 percent tax increase for residents.

Council members highlighted the teamwork between political parties as a crucial part of the budget's development.

"I'd like to thank the majority of the council for working with the minority council," said Vice-Chairperson Rick Field (D). There are four Republican party members and three Democrats on the council.

Fellow council member Jan Rubino thanked residents for supporting the budget.

The council also approved the creation of a Tolland Technology Task Force, as well as an expansion of the Energy Task Force to the Energy Task Force and Facilities Task Force.
