Town Manager 'Exceeds Expectations' in Performance Review

The town council wrapped up its review of Town Manager Steven Werbner this week.

Town Manager Steven Werbner earned an overall rating of 'exceeds expectations' in his 2011-2012 performance review, completed by the town council this week.

"The town council appreciates Mr. Werbner's dedication, fiscal management and leadership. Mr. Werbner continues to be an asset to the town by his professionalism, knowledge of job, knowledge of the laws that govern us and his work ethic," the council said in the summary statement.

Werbner was praised for his fiscal management and visibility during town events. He was also encouraged to make the Planning and Development department more business friendly and to provide more oversight in Parks and Recreation to increase participation and revenue.

The review is posted above. The town provided the review after Tolland Patch requested it. The review is considered public information under the Freedom of Information Act.

I'd consider that report understated. We have an extraordinary asset in Mr. Werbner.

Hmmm I smell a pay increase or performance bonus somewhere.......as if he isn't making enough already along with his large pension from the Town of Manchester.

Oh, fer criminy's sake, I get sick of this one-note shrieking from half-note whiners. There's no one more aware of the town's financial difficulties than Steve Werbner, who spends 10 hours a day juggling resources and issues. He'd be the last to ask for or accept any kind of bonus until - and when - the town's finances were flush. But yeah, yeah, gummint should be run by unpaid volunteers. We get it.

I understand that you get tired of us curmungeons, Jim. But this council has less than one year under its belt and the amount of previous council experience among them is exceedingly low. So, it isn't surprising Mr. Werbner exceeded their expectations. He certainly is competent and can easily impress an inexperienced council. Lets hope they show restraint in the increase they will undoubtedly feel obliged to give him though.

There's a difference between curmudgeon and idiot. And a difference between praise and a raise. And a difference between what the town council (who we elected) says and what a private individual says. But it's all the same to the bifocal crowd that can't hear anything over the whine of their Rascal scooters.
