The Homestead is on the Market

Tolland landmark listed for $249,900.

The Homestead, a country store that has graced the historic Tolland Green since 1810, is up for sale.

The business, popular for its wide stock of locally crafted items and impressive antiques collection, is listed online for $249,900.

Located at 46 Tolland Green, the two-story commercial building has "excellent" structural integrity and a lot size of 3,485 square feet with three parking spaces, according to the listing.

Just two years ago, the local shop, which once served as a cobbler shop and a hoop skirt factory, celebrated its 30th Anniversary.

Local Stacey Sullivan says learning of the impending sale broke her heart.

In a blog on Tolland Patch, Sullivan wrote: "It wasn’t until I saw the for sale sign on the property that it truly hit home," she said. "Now having a child of my own, I dreamed of bringing her there, to stand on that same stool and look with excitement into the old glass candy case. I wanted her to experience the joy and beauty of this magical little place. I wanted her to save her money for the awaited trips to her favorite store, where she could learn a little about math, history, making decisions, perspective, and humanity."
