Back to School: Meet Math Support Teacher Shay Belair

Belair, new to the Tolland school district, will be working with students at Tolland Middle School.

Math support teacher Shay Belair is ready to tackle those tough math problems with students.

Belair, who also has experience as a classroom teacher, said that she enjoys working with students on math skills in a small group setting.

"Going from a classroom teacher to a smaller group, I get to know the students better, and I can cater to their learning styles to help them succeed," she said.

Belair was a classroom teacher at Manchester's Illing Middle School for four years and spent a year in Somers in a similar math support position. She recently took time off to stay home with her two children.

She will work both in small groups and as teacher support in the classroom, she said.

A long-time Enfield resident, Belair earned her undergraduate degree at Westfield State University and her master's at Western Governors University.
