Back to School: Meet Social Studies Teacher Sarah Dagon

Dagon will be teaching civics and U.S. History at Tolland High School.

seniors are going to be well-versed in local election news and town government, thanks to new social studies teacher Sarah Dagon.

A former Vernon civics and world history teacher, Dagon said that she is thinking outside the box to communicate the importance of voting to her upcoming senior civics students, some of whom will be able to participate in .

So far, she intends to have students attend local meetings and perhaps teach the eighth-grade civics class about the elections.

"The high school students themselves become the experts," Dagon said of how the experience will help the high schoolers master the content.

In addition to civics, which Dagon taught to sophomores in Vernon, she will also be leading a U.S. History class.

She said that she is looking forward to working in a smaller community, but is also grateful that she will continue to work with high school students.

"High school is where I wanted to stay. It's really where my passion is at."

Dagon attended the University of Connecticut for her undergraduate and graduate degrees.
