Her Story in Quilts: Looking at the Civil War through Textiles

Our guest presenter will be Lynne Zacek Bassett, a specialist in New England's historic costumes and textiles. Lynne will speak about the use of textiles as a way to understand the Civil War experience in different terms than the usual analysis of battle strategy and heralding of military heroes. Quilts, in particular, offer opportunities to examine the experiences of civilians--especially women--on the home front.
This lecture focuses on the quilts that women created to honor their country and fighting men folk, from the first call to defend their country to the post-war ceremonies that helped veterans to make sense of their experiences.

This program will be held in the woodshed classroom of the museum. It is FREE to the public, although donations are always appreciated.
