THS Names 2012 Valedictorian, Salutatorian

Michelle Zimmerman and Katherine Jacobs have been named as the valedictorian and salutatorian of the Class of 2012, according to a press release sent to Tolland Patch.

Zimmerman, who excels in mathematics and computer science, has been at the top of her class since freshman year. A student with a "diligent work ethic," she has chosen to take the school's most challenging academic courses, including Advanced Placement and UConn Early College Experience classes in physics, chemistry, calculus and English. 

In addition, Zimmerman has devoted time to give back to her community. She has volunteered with programs for disabled children, including "Buddy Bowling" and "ACE Tennis." Zimmerman is also a pianist, tennis player, golfer and student government member.

She will attend the College of Holy Cross in Worcester, MA, this fall.

Salutatorian Katherine Jacobs has balanced academic excellence with a full schedule of extracurricular activities including varsity outdoor and indoor track, varsity cross country, prom committee and student council. She has always placed on the high honor roll, been named a CAPT Scholar and earned THS Excellence Awards in a number of subjects. A "scholar-athlete" for all four years of high school, she was the 2011 varsity cross country team captain.

Jacobs also participated in the intensive Middlebury Monterey Language Academy program during the summer of her junior year. She is interested in studying International Affairs at George Washington University this fall.
