Tolland Intermediate School Students Honored for Fire Prevention Posters

Emily Bliss and Kathryn Heaney participated in Connecticut Fire Prevention poster contest and were named county winners. Bliss was also named the statewide winner.

Two students from Tolland Intermediate School have been honored as county winners in the Connecticut Fire Prevention poster contest.

Emily Bliss and Kathryn Heaney, a fifth and fourth grader respectively, participated in the contest that fourth and fifth graders - upwards of 30,000 children across the state - are eligible to participate in.

“They did such a great job,” said TIS principal James Dineen. “We’re so proud of them.”

Bliss, who was a county winner last year also, was named the overall statewide winner and will have her poster on the cover of the annual fire prevention poster contest calendar. Heaney will also have her poster in the calendar.

Both girls will also have their posters on display at the state capitol in October during fire prevention week.

The contest is sponsored by the Connecticut Fire Marshals’ Association, Office of the State Fire Marshall, Connecticut Fire Chiefs’ Association, State Board of Education and the Connecticut FAIR Plan (representing the insurance industry).
