Tolland Resident, Future Teacher, Recognized at National Conference
The conference ran from June 29-July 6.
A Tolland resident and member of the Connecticut Education Association’s Student Program (CEA-SP), is the recent recipient of the 151st Annual National Education Association’s (NEA) summer leadership conference awards.
Emily Oaks, a former CEA-SP State Chair, and Southern Connecticut State University student, was one of five individuals recognized by the NEA with the following awards:
Outstanding State Affiliate Award to Connecticut
Outstanding Local Affiliate Award to Southern CT State University

Outstanding Local Leader Award to Timothy Nott (Western Connecticut State University)
CEA President Sheila Cohen congratulated the students.

“These future educators will play a crucial role in our nation to make sure every student receives a quality education,” Cohen said in a prepared statement.
“Teachers are our nation’s heroes—they motivate and inspire young minds and enable students to achieve extraordinary things. I know these future teachers will make excellent educators, and I thank them for their commitment to making a real difference in students’ lives," she said.
