Tolland School Cafeterias Passing the Test

The local health department school cafeteria inspection reports for 2010 have been released.

Tolland’s school districts are making the grade when it comes to making sure that meals are cooked and prepared properly.

The food services within Tolland Public Schools have received high marks, according to inspection reports compiled by the Connecticut Health I-Team (C-HIT).

The C-HIT collected more than 1,700 inspection reports from 103 cities and towns in 2010.

The majority of Tolland's scores were in the mid-to-upper 90s, with the exception of one 87 at the Tolland Middle School on a scale of 100, with 100 being the best. Upon re-inspection 14 days later, the TMS ranking was increased to at 96.

If cited for violations, most were due to dusty fans, the need to cover the pizza light, the storage of containers and the cleanliness of plastic covers. TMS was cited in Nov. 2010 for having to throw away turkey breast that had been prepared the day before but not stored at the correct temperature; the process was quickly corrected.
