Tolland Schools Looking for Volunteers to Clear Roofs

The four school principals sent out a call Saturday for volunteers to help with the clearing effort Sunday morning.

Many hands make light work!

With four school buildings full of a blizzard's worth of snow, the principals at Birch Grove, TIS, TMS and THS all sent out a call for help Saturday to help clear out school building roofs.

Superintendent William Guzman said that groups of volunteers helped out with the gargantuan task a few years ago, when snow accumulations reached critical levels.

"We had a wonderful turn out of folks who showed up with shovels," Guzman recalled. "Given that this is an unprecedented amount of snow, we're trying to stay ahead of the curve."

Volunteers are asked to show up at 9 a.m. with shovels. The school district is requesting that parents of students help out at their child's current school. Volunteers who are not parents of students can choose which building to report to, Guzman said.
