Sen. Guglielmo Receives Key Committee Assignments for the 2013 Legislative Session
New General Assembly is sworn in and gets committee assignments
Hartford,CT - Senator Tony Guglielmo (R-Stafford) received four key committee assignments for the 2013 legislative session and will be sworn in for a eleventh term at the State Capitol on Wednesday, January 9th.
Senate minority leadership recently announced that Sen. Guglielmo will be the ranking member on Public Safety and sit on the Program Review & Investigations, Internship, Exec & Legislative Nominations committees.
Sen.Guglielmo was also named Chief Deputy Minority Leader of the Republican
Caucus. As ranking member on Public Safety, Sen. Guglielmo has always taken an active role in making sure the policies passed by the committee keep the citizens of Connecticut safe. "This year we will partake in a responsible civil discourse with regard to gun control in light of the recent tragedy in Newtown. It must include a discussion of access to mental health, school safety and of course protecting the second amendment," said Sen. Guglielmo.

Public Safety committee has cognizance of all matters relating to homeland curity, the Department of Public Safety, including state police, state organized task force on crime, municipal police training, fire marshals, the fire safety code and the state building code, civil preparedness and legalized gambling, and military and
veterans' affairs, except veterans' pensions.
- Program Review & Investigations committee with
no specific subject matter boundaries, the committee's primary charge is
to examine "state government programs and their administration to
ascertain whether such programs are effective, continue to serve their
intended purposes, are conducted in an efficient and effective manner, or require modification or elimination." It may raise and report out
bills related to these examinations.

Sen. Guglielmo, was first elected to represent the 35th Senatorial District in the
General Assembly in 1992. Guglielmo, who retired as president and owner of the Penny-Hanley & Howley Co., Inc. in Stafford, is active in civic and political affairs.
He was appointed by President Bush to the U.S. Small Business Administration National Advisory Council in 1989. Prior to this, Sen. Guglielmo was appointed by
President Reagan to the Federal Council on Aging in 1981.
On the state level, Sen. Guglielmo, a graduate of the University of Connecticut, is a member and past chairman of the UConn Parents Committee and a former member of the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Association for the Prevention of Child Abuse. Sen. Guglielmo served in the U.S. Army from 1962-1968. He holds a B.A. in political science from the University of Connecticut and a Masters Degree in history from Trinity College.
