Shop Small + Shop Local = Shopping Success!

This coming Saturday is Small Business Saturday, an annual event meant to bring awareness and revenue to local small businesses everywhere.  The big box stores have Black Friday, and the small businesses showcase their goods and services the following day, Small Business Saturday. You may be wondering why it is so important to shop small and local.  The reasons may surprise you!

Shopping small businesses supports an investment in your local community.  Jobs are created not only at the small businesses that surround you but at other businesses where they order their supplies.  Local businesses pay a variety of taxes to be in business and those taxes are what fund the services our towns need to operate.  One of my personal favorite benefits from shopping small and local is the personal service and attention you get.  Can you think of an experience with a large company that went amiss and had you spending time addressing the issue?  How many people did you speak with and how well was the issue resolved? Did you feel as though the issue may have been because the company was so large and out of touch with its customers? Our own small business (New England Steam Clean) prides itself on superior customer service and attention to detail.  We truly care about the work we do because it has our name on it, and this is true for any small business in any industry.

This week on our business Facebook page, we are highlighting one local business a day to celebrate Small Business Saturday.  We are hoping not only that people will get some great information on some wonderful local businesses, but we invite everyone to do this same daily shout out!  Tell your friends and family members about your favorite local businesses and what makes them your go-to place.  You are supporting your local community and the economy by doing so ...  and you may even find some great ideas for the upcoming holiday shopping season in the process!
