Kahan, Kerensky and Capossela Dodgers Win Majors Title

The beat the Sweet Frog Angels in the championship game.

The Kahan, Kerensky and Capossela Dodgers won the Tolland Little league Majors Division this season.  

They took the title with a 2-1 win over the Sweet Frog Angels on June 20 at Cross Farms Field. The No. 2-seeded Dodgers, winners of 10 of their last 11 games, swept through the Majors playoffs with fourth straight victories.  

The Dodgers beat the Yankees, 17-7 in the opening round, and then relied on pitching and defense the rest of the way, defeating the Cardinals 3-1, and the regular season champion and top-seeded Mets 6-1 before the championship victory.

The  Dodgers broke up a 0-0 pitcher's duel by scratching out a run in the fourth against Angels starter Matt Byam, who pitched a strong four innings.  Jack Cerra led off with a double over the center fielder’s head and advanced to third on a passed ball.

Winning pitcher Jack Doherty, who pitched a complete game and struck out eight, helped himself with an infield single to score Cerra.  
The Angels clawed back with a run of their own in the top of the fifth as Matt Neznakyo singled, advanced on a Harrison Eklund single before scoring on a Byam single. 

Doherty then struck out the last two batters to quell the rally.

The Dodgers bounced back in the bottom half of the fifth as Nick Harmon on singled and advanced to third after a pair of walk before scampering home on a passed ball for what would amount the be the winning run.

The Angels attempted a final rally in the sixth.  With one out, Ryan Sirois singled. But the game ended with the Dodgers flashing some defense with a strike ‘em out – throw ‘em out double play as Doherty struck out a batter and catcher Stephen Sutton threw out Sirois trying to steal second to end the game and start the celebration.

The Dodgers finished at 13-3.  

Dodgers were coached by Rich Dooley, Steve Sutton and Todd Harmon.  Dodger players included Maxwell Bos, Jack Cerra, Ryan Crabb Jack Doherty, Kevin Dooley, Nick Harmon, James Heaney, Eva Riggott, Jack Riggott, Stephen Sutton, Scott Vogler, and Hunter Williams.

The Angels finished at 10-7. After losing to the Cardinals in the opening round of the playoffs, the Angels fought back with 3 consecutive wins to advance to the championship game.
